Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008)

Welcome to Sajjanpur is an upcoming Indian film starring Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao in the lead roles. It is directed by Shyam Benegal and is his first comedy film. The film revolves about a guy who is one of the few educated young men from Sajjanpur, and who makes his living by writing letters. His ability to write persuasive letters makes him extremely popular with largely the illiterate population of his town. The film is a delightful satirical take on a contemporary Indian village. The film was originally titled Mahadev ka Sajjanpur.
Mahadev is one of the few educated young men from Sajjanpur. His ambition is to be a novelist but finds it easier to make a living by writing letters sitting next to the post office. His ability to write persuasive letters makes him popular with the largely non-literate population of the town. Aware of this power, he soon uses his talent to manipulate people with amusing and sometimes not such amusing results.
With this as the narrative frame, Welcome to Sajjanpur shows in an entertaining, musical and comic way, characters and events that are at once hilarious and poignant. A delightful satirical take on a contemporary Indian village.

Appaloosa (2008)

Set in 1882 in the Old West territory of New Mexico, Appaloosa revolves around city marshal Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and his deputy and partner Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen), who have made their reputation as peacekeepers in the lawless towns springing up in the untamed land.

In the small mining community of Appaloosa, a ruthless, powerful rancher named Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) has allowed his band of outlaws to run roughshod over the town. After the cold-blooded murder of Appaloosa’s city marshal, Cole and Hitch are hired to bring the murderer to justice.

While establishing new authority with equal parts grit and guns, Cole and Hitch meet provocative newcomer Allison French (Renée Zellweger), whose unconventional ways threaten to undermine their progress and to destroy the two lawmen’s decade-old partnership.

Saas Bahu Aur Sensex (2008)

t is a comedy about developments in the time of India, and how a group of Indian housewives decide to take a dive in world stock markets.

The film stars Tanushree Dutta, Masumeh Makhija Central and talents as Kiron Kher, Farooq Sheikh and Lillete Dubey. However, the film has already hit the headlines thanks to the spat between Tanushree and director. Probably the film will be remembered for the right reasons!

This will be the first film that Warner Bros. is distributing in India. With this low-budget Flick, they will certainly test the waters before releasing their major project budget CHANDNI Chowk to China.

The Duchess (2008)

In 1774 Georgiana Cavendish (Knightley) marries the sullen Duke Of Devonshire (Fiennes) with the sole purpose of providing him a male heir. The Duke, angered at his wife’s inability to fulfil her wifely duties - she gives him two daughters - embarks on an affair with Georgiana’s only friend Bess (Atwell), an open secret in their stately home. While putting up with that daily humiliation, Georgiana indulges in a dalliance of her own with Mr. Grey (Cooper), an aspiring Tory, but is forced to choose between her own happiness and the happiness of her children.

Popular with the people and known as the ‘Empress of fashion,’ it’s impossible to escape the Princess Diana allegory running through Saul Dibb’s film - the only thing missing is her death in a carriage collision. Adapted from Amanda Foreman’s novel, it will appeal to those who love their period dramas (the locations on show are at times breathtaking) and although the audience this drama is pitched at will have seen better, it’s a solid film. Knightley might be front and centre and shows again that she’s not just a pretty face, but it’s Fiennes, hamstrung by a small if formidable role, that seems to do more than his co-star and acts her off the screen whenever the two are together; thankfully for Knightley it’s not that often.

My Best Friend’s Girl (2008)

The Women (2008)

The Women is partially salvaged from being endlessly offensive, as the witty and warm ensemble chemistry of these actresses kicks in. But why are the roles of lesbian outsider and designated home-wrecker villainous relegated to the only women of color in the film? And while there may be no men in this movie - save for that maternal stress-reliever male newborn - the way all the conflicts of these affluent females get resolved through commercially approved lifestyles for women, has the suspicious fingerprints of men all over it.

Dramatic highlights in The Women among this pampered, shopaholic and more often than not whining inner circle of female patricians, include a catfight in corsets that plays out in a Saks fitting room; an upscale fashion show as the road to self-empowerment along with the cure for man trouble blues; and Saks as the ultimate female resuscitating sanctuary that can always be counted on to make life worth living again.

C Kkompany (2008)

The story of the film ‘ C Kkompany’ is a story of three middle class people (Tusshar Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav) who in order to solve and come out of their financial problem set up a company. This film portrays how losers become rulers.

Speaking about the story line of C Kkompany the director Yardi said, “The film is about how this prank played creates situations and incidents, which are way beyond the control of the three characters (Tusshar Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav) in the film. I would also say that their journey begins in a house of 600 square feet and it ends up with them being talked about in the parliament and becoming national hero’s.
